What are some abdominal exercises that are safe for your spinal discs?

What are some lower-abdominal exercises you can do if you are concerned about your back and don't want to encourage any slipped discs?

Planks and hover planks. The cross temple knee reach with your back flat on the mat. The mountain climber (just make sure your back is flat not arched). Other pilates where you lie on your back and move your legs can still work your abs too.

Properly done abdominal exercises do not risk slipped disks anyway.

@Barry...FYI situps are the worst for your low back. Cause more low back injuries than improper lifting.

Leg lifts and planks are good. Any exercise that makes you twist has the potential to cause disk problems if you do it the wrong way.

Speak to an orthopedist or physical therapist about this.  Following amateur advice you find online is not the smartest thing to do.

Sit-ups can actually CAUSE back issues in some people.

Sit ups are the best way. Start slowly with only a few. They will also tone up the muscles supporting your spine.
