Should a six-year-old child be punished for first-degree murder?

"Taught"? A kid shouldn't have to be "taught" that killing is wrong. If they know how to kill, they know it's wrong. Kids are their own people and make their own decisions. So, the child should be held responsible and separated from the rest of society and perhaps be rehabilitated.

First degree murder requires both understanding and intent. A child that young has no real understanding of what murder is

When I was four years old my sister (twice my size) was 7.
She PREMEDITATED doing evil... taking a pair of pliers and hiding them behind her back, she demanded three times:"Show me your thumb!"
When I finally obliged, she held it, took the nail in the tip of the pliers and ripped the whole nail out, with one hard parallel motion.
She knew very well what she was doing.
She knew it was wrong.
I have had heinous evil done to me by children... and I also did my fair share of it. Did I know the things I was doing were wrong? Of course I did... and I was punished severely (my sister wasn't).
The punishment I received seemed unpleasant at the time, but gave me the ability to be self-disciplined.
We live in a country that murders babies by the millions (the womb becomes their grave) yet intent on keeping mass murderers alive in prisons.
