What does trying to say means ?

Like how to people try to say something ?the only try I kno is try- to make an effort attempt to do something . I’m confuse cause i was told that’s not the kind of try they’re talking about

    1 That's such a dumb dialog. 2 It doesn't make sense. 3 They misspelled forgot.

    Example: 

    Person says:  There was a problem with the car today. 

    So you ask:  What are you TRYING to say? 

    What the person really means is: 

    I crashed your car!

    that means they didn't say, were too afraid to say, and couldn't bring themselves to say.
