Denver is a big city and has a pretty substantial suburban area. There are grocery stores and other stores everywhere. You'll always be close to something.
The best neighborhoods are hard to define, because they all vary in terms of affordability, urban/suburban feel, etc. Without knowing what type of area you want to live in it's hard to really say.
