Why are there people that don’t want to know that somebody is depressed?

People I come across in my everyday life ask me how I feel. A few times I’ve said I’m feeling depressed but there was no emotional reaction in them. It seems that people just don’t care if someone is depressed and that they are unfeeling miserable people. How is a person’s mental health supposed to improve when there are people in the world who are insensitive and useless towards the mental health of others? I often have to lie about how I feel because it seems nobody wants to know that I’m actually depressed. I have depression because of the way I get treated by insensitive and unfeeling people who lack empathy and understanding. I used to get bullied when I was a child and now this - being mistreated by miserable people.

Anonymous user, it’s not their answer that makes me feel mistreated. It’s the fact that I’ve been emotionally abandoned since I was a child by people and from what I sense from others, they are insensitive and unfeeling which makes me depressed. I hear what you’re saying though about good deeds for some people. A lot of people around me don’t have a sense of mutuality and heart. Happiness is supposed to be mutual. How can someone be happy by themselves when others have a negative impact on them?

    because they are weak minded and can't accept that there is depression and a miserable world out there living in a delusional reality of fakeness. unable to appreciate one's struggling. unable to understand their own struggles. let alone someone elses.

    What do you expect from these people that you tell them that you are depressed? They are not psychologists.  They merely asked a normalized run-of-the-mill question.  Exactly how does someone not responding to an answer as you expected constitute being mistreated?

    Bullying has been around since the cave man days.  Move on.  Quit finding fault in everyone else and every situation and making it all against you.  You are ultimately responsible for your own happiness as well as your own mental health.  

    So.. get up off the couch or infront of the computer, get outside and do something for yourself or someone less fortunate than you.  Trust me.. time will go by and you will start feeling better about yourself and then your self-pity party will go away.  People will want to be around you after you change YOUR attitude.  Its not that hard.

    Take a walk, read to a child, weed a garden, mow a lawn, wash a car, smile and say good day to someone you meet, hold a door open for an elderly person.

    Keep your head up.  Keep moving on.  Smile.  Ask God to fix your broken heart out loud or in your head.  Read the Bible for advice.  Forgive.
