An empty truck has a mass of 2000 kg. Its maximum acceleration is 1 m/s2 when empty. Calculate its maximum acceleration when it is carrying a 1000 kg load.

    when empty, force = F = ma = 2000•1 = 2000 N

    assuming that is fixed,

    a = F/m = 2000 / (2000+1000) = 2/3 m/s²

    a' = a*Mt/(Mt+Mℓ) = 1.0*2000/(2000+1000) = 2/3 = 0.6(6) m/sec^2
