Should plastics that end up in the environment be standardized to one type, to simplify collection and recycling?
People want to outlaw straws and other plastics, but the real problem is that having different plastics makes recycling prohibitively expensive. If everything that ended up in the ocean was made of the same type of plastic it would be easy to recycle and more likely to be profitable to collect.

Sounds great until you realize that different plastics are best for different uses. Even within each of the seven categories, there are different formulations, designed for different characteristics.
