Landlord tried entering my room while I was sleeping, is this a good letter to send in response to the situation? ?

Hello, I wanted to come to a resolution involving the incident on November 3rd. According to the lease agreement, there needs to be a 24 hour notice before entering my personal space. There was notice for the next day, but zero notice for November 3rd. I woke up to you trying to come through the blinds on the window to my room. Thankfully I woke up before you crawled into my room.

The Oregon State law states that I have certain rights to a peaceful place to live. Knowing that you feel okay entering my room without my consent is uncomforting, and I appreciate that you tried to make it right by offering me $50. However, with my rights being broken and me feeling violated, I did not accept $50. I don't want to be kicked out of the house or cause any more trouble, but I was wondering if we could resolve this issue by waiving this next months rent.

Thank you,

-

Update:

I rent a room in a house. I was sleeping inside of the room when he took the screen off my window and came through my blinds. He doesn't live here or own the house. I keep my door locked when I sleep, and that's why he had to try the window. There's cameras that prove he was trying to get into my room and facebook messages from him saying he needed to get in there that day and he was sorry for waking me up.

Update 2:

I'm on a 6 month lease.

Your taxes will not be affected

I doubt you'll get any rent rebate but it's worth a try. Get some window locks!!

No, this is a very bad letter. Please retake high school grammar and punctuation, then try again.

you aren't going to get free rent because the landlord did not provide proper notice.

Either you are concerned about not getting appropriate notice, which may allow you to leave OR you get nothing.

Cash for the error does not "resolve" the issue.

If you don't want to get kicked out of the house and you are a month to month tenant, you don't do anything and deal with it.

Why wasn't the landlord able to use the door?

I don't believe they tried to come thru the blinds, I don't believe they offered you $50 either.  I can guarantee you wont get next months rent waived. Id bet my life on it.

I lived in an apartment for 10 years, they never gave notice and pest control came every month, maintenance at least every 3 months to change the furnace filter.

Why does he need in your room anyway?  Mine NEVER came in my room. One time they came about 4 times looking for water that was going to the apartment below. Thought it was from my washing machine. It was not.

Make sure to give him a copy of your lease that states the penalty you are demanding for entering your room with out notice.  What?  You just made that number up?  In that case take the $50 if you want to stay.  If you don't, give not notice to vacate and sue your landlord for acting in bad faith for the cost of one month's rent, but be prepared to prove it actually happened, not just make the accusation.  Sending that note will only make the $50 offer be rescinded leaving you with nothing.

you're not being realistic talking about waiving a month of rent! I would say you're trying to black mail whoever enter your room. Why would someone come through the blinds of your window if they already have access to the inside of the house? This makes no sense and foolish u would even wait two or three weeks later to address the issue. Leave it alone and find something better to do with your time besides trying to get over on someone w a free month of rent. If u were to go to court over this, definitely be thrown out
