What bands do you follow that dont get mainstream attention.?

Why? There are thousands of singers and bands that don't become famous.

Swans and Stereolab are abut the only extant non-mainstream bands I still follow. I used to like Modest Mouse and Butthole Surfers but they fell out of favour a while ago.

Defunct non-mainstream bands I liked include Sonic Youth, Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band, and the 13th Floor Elevators.

Depends what you mean by mainstream media?  You're not going to hear The Residents, Pere Ubu or Captain Beefheart on your average radio station but they are well known enough to have had books written about them and documentaries made.

Could you clarify what you mean by mainstream attention, please? A lot of the bands I like aren't mainstream in my opinion, but other people might think they are. For example, Metric is my favorite band. I don't think they get mainstream attention. Most people who aren't really into music don't know who they are. On the other hand, they have played at Coachella.
