Exercise may help but you can't lose enough weight if you just depend on exercise. Weight gain is a dietary problem. You gain weight because you eat too much so to lose weight, you lessen what you eat.

You'll lose more by cutting a 1000 calories out of your diet each day. Working out is a really really small part of weight loss.
