Is it okay to eat a 6 month expired SlimJim?
One of those long ones, "mild" flavor. Bought it no more than a week or two ago at a gas station, though it was pretty knocked up. Opened it for a bite today but it smelled a little funky, wasn't sure if it was regular Slim Jim funky or bad funky, so I looked at the expiration date. It says best by April 3, 2020, and it is currently October 20, 2020. I know some foods are still good well after their best by date but I wasn't sure about dried meat. And like I said, I did open it a little, so I don't know if that would play a part in shortening its lifespan. Still good to eat, proceed with caution, or throw away?

that is NOT an expiration date..do you see the word "expired"? I bet not. its a best if used by date. If it stinks don't eat it. Thats just common sense.

Best to throw it out.
Check your pantry every month or so for perishable items that have expired or will soon.

Take it back to the gas station where you bought it and tell them they sold you out of date food.

The "use by" dates don't mean anything. As long as it's unopened it won't hurt you.
