If you stay at your job, another person gets the job you are looking at...they may very well NOT be unemployed.

If you leave your job for a new one...that leave a job opening.  Someone WILL get your old job. Will they be unemployed? Who knows.

(BTW:  Employers...for some weird reason..prefer to hire people who currently have jobs.  It may be they need someone whose skills are current...it may be they feel they are getting one up on their competition by hiring one of their employees...but for what ever reason...if you leave your current job...the person who replaces you will have been selected from a group of people who are employed...just looking for a different job for some reason.)

Taking a better opportunity to improve your life does not make you selfish.  Also, the unemployed people who are looking for work will then have another open position to apply for when you leave your current job.
