What was the worst car you have ever bought?

A Ford Courier.  What a piece of junk it was. It was not Fix or Repair Daily, it was fix or repair hourly.  It was so bad that a thief stole the truck & actually returned it because it was so bad.

It was a really nice car - leather interior, comfortable, etc. - but the transmission went out at 60K (fortunately I know a Chrysler mechanic, and he only charged me $900 to rebuilt it).

The biggest problem was that the cooling system had a valve on the thermostat housing for bleeding air out of the system - but if any air got into the system, it would collect in the housing, and the valve would blow, resulting in coolant spraying all over the engine compartment.

I finally connected a hose to the valve and ran it back over to the coolant reservoir - but would still occasionally have to bleed the system, even though it didn't seem to be leaking (or burning) any coolant.

I swore off Chrysler for years - but we decided to look at a Dodge Journey (very inexpensive  - with a third row seat).  When the salesman came out I had already opened the hood and popped the beauty cover off of the engine.

'What are you looking for?' he asked.  'The valve that blows coolant all over the engine compartment' I said.  He laughed and said 'we got rid of that', so I told him 'you just bought yourself five minutes'.

We ended up buying it - brand new, tax/title and everything for less than $20K.  We drove it for a few years with no problem (I had to change the battery at the three year mark - and it's inexplicably mounted inside the driver's side wheelwell), then traded it in on a slightly upgraded model (still only $22K).  We've had it for just over three years, and I did the battery last week, but other than that it's been flawless.

1986 Pontiac Trans Am -- it was my first "real" car, and it was a complete turd. Carbureted, gutless V8. T-tops that leaked like crazy, assuming the handles held together. Never got it to run "cool", as it was always overheating due to something. Seat upholstery was thin, and holes popped up on the driver's seat before 50K miles. AC/Delco stereo was tuned for the junkyard right out of the factory. 

I study BEFORE I buy so I don't get any lemons .................

1982 Ford Fiesta. Just before electronic ignition became standard , this had the old fashioned type. Any hint of rain and it would not start. Bought it new, only kept it 18 months.

All in all, my auto-biography is a fairly quiet and uneventful one.Most of my cars each lasted a decade or so.

The first one that had my name on the registration was a handmedown from my dad, a 1978 Ford Granada. It wasn't very powerful or anything noteworthy, but it got the job done.

My next two cars were Ford Tauruses, a 1990, replaced by a 1998. That last one was kept too long, being 14 years old when a garage told us the engine was about to fall out.

My current car, a 2009 Kia Rondo, is wonderful and I am really going to miss it when we have to replace it. Kia no longer makes the model, and in 2012, they reskinned it.

'79 Camaro - ordered new - as delivered:  2 different kinds of sun visors. . . 2 different color armrests . . . burn hole in drivers door trim . . . 2 different kinds of outside door handles . . . no AC compressor clutch . . . . nothing in the choke housing ("quality control" just had the idle speed set at 2500 rpm)  . . . stud for air cleaner had punched dent in the hood . . . . looked like it was painted with a roller . . . . body panel fit so bad you could slide you entire hand between the door and the  front fender.   After numerous trips back for corrections, factory rep said it was "within standards".  Sold the darn thing with 800 miles on it at and lost 1/3 of value.  In other words, a total POS.

When GM shut-down the Camaro/Firebird plant the unions cried and workers protested  having "devoted their lives to building a quality product".  I hope they all starved, but think they got paid for 5 years after plant closed.  

Used 1974 Chevrolet Vega - no one can beat that answer. 

My first car.  It was a 1952 Chevy 4 door sedan.  Army green.  Everything went wrong with it.
