Nuns (Penguins)?

Many years ago Nuns (Penguins we affectionately called them) were constantly seen walking down the street but now we never see one in public.

Does anyone know why and is it the same in your country?

I use to see them everywhere, but the strict dress codes are gone save for a very few convents.

I'm English too (from Smethwick) and remember seeing nuns all the time, but more and more Muslims moved into the area and the nuns started to vanish. I live in Italy now and see them much more.

For one thing, many orders have cars now. But I still see them around Catholic schools.

They no longer are required to wear the habit.

Civilian clothes are the norm now.

Nuns around here dress in normal clothing now. They have largely abandoned the silly penguin costume.
