How long does Nicotine withdrawal last?

Male, 27, been smoking for 11-12 years, smoking average of 7-10 roll up cigarettes per day.

Today is my tenth day into quitting cold turkey.

Compared to the first few days Im a lot better (not really craving for it anymore) but Im still experiencing:

-Low on energy

-Lack of concentration / focus

-Confusion

-Insomnia

Does anyone have any personal experience with how long it takes for things to get back to normal?

I was told that it could take approximately 2 weeks to get over the physical addiction and 2 months or more to break the psychological addiction.

My Ma, who quit some 30 odd years ago says she still occasionally craves a ciggy. Thankfully she doesn't cave in to the crave and it passes in a matter of moments.

If you've made it 10 days already, stick with it! You're over the hump!

Just try to think of anything else rather than smoking, like all the money you're saving for starters.

A friend told me when he quit, he saved up the money he'd normally have spent on ciggys everyday, he'd put it in a jar... after a year he had enough money to go to Hawaii! Maybe you could do the same, or something similar and concentrate on that goal rather than thinking about smoking.

I tapered off to less than 1/2 pack a day before I stopped.  I used nicotine gum for a while, but not long.  I quit drinking years ago (alcohol WANTS cig's) and I had to stop drinking coffee for a while. It's been 3 years and sometimes I think I'd like a cig as a "reward" for doing something, like mowing the lawn or washing the dishes.  But I know that if I have 1 cig, I'll want ALL the cigs.  So I mentally "change the subject."

I gave up 40 years ago with a combination of cold turkey and sheer bloody-mindedness.  I took to brisk walks and finished up walking about 6 miles a day.  Give that a try, it will help your symptoms.

Nicotine will be gone from your body in 72 hours.

The withdrawal symptoms can last up to three months.  It takes your brain chemistry about three months to return to normal.

You can do it.  I dipped for a long time (30+ years) and quit about two years ago cold turkey, after having tried many many times to stop.
