Burning smell when I shower I think from water heater .?
I recently got a new water heater 6 months ago and the past two times I showered it gets like a sweet burning smell. I do not see a actually leak on the tank but I do hear dripping coming from the inside and also a knocking sound just sometimes .
I live in a garage apartment and the water heater is below my bathroom . It's a gas 40 gallon water heater if that helps .
Also this is gonna sound strange but i see dents in there that were not there from what i remember when they installed it .

How about you call the installer and let them check it out.

The smell is probably from something that was put on the inside of the tank to prevent corrosion during the production of the water heater. Sounds aren't uncommon because of the change in temperature as cold water enters the tank once there is a demand for hot water. It is the expansion and contraction between temperature changes. As far as the dents are concerned they were most likely caused by the installer but certainly are nothing to be concerned about.

well..the knocking i know is too much water pressure for your pipes to handle..a lot of places have that problem. I also notice a burning slight smell when i shower///but i have electric water heater..i also turned down my water heater temp and that did not help the smell...i also hear dripping...but after months of hearing it I realize it must not be dripping at all otherwise I would have seen water damage by now
