Am I being selfish?

I am a medical professional who works part time, 24hr/week at an acute care facility.  Since the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic there has been increased pressure to work extra shifts and, "help out."

I dont plan on working any extra time until this crisis passes.  I  rarely work additional shifts on a regular basis, so I definately dont want to spend more time in the contagion than is necessary to maintain my corrent lifestyle.

We all have to decide what is right for us. I'm not going to judge anyone.

I would ask how long you’ve been doing this job, and whether or not you might be burned out. Typically, people who go into healthcare, especially direct patient care, do so because it is something of a calling for them - they are interested in not just the paycheck, but the service to humanity aspect of the job. I would ask if you might not be providing the exceptional and consistent care your patients deserve, even during the twenty-four hours weekly to which you are committed. If your answer to either of these questions is “yes” then perhaps it’s time to evaluate a potential change of career. You deserve to feel excited and fulfilled in your employment, but since you are delivering healthcare services to a vulnerable population, your patients deserve nothing less than 100% of your effort and enthusiasm. If you cannot consistently deliver that, it is not only unfair to yourself to continue in the job, it is unfair to your patients. Only you can make this determination.

Good luck to you, and thank you for asking this question.

You should surrender your license to practice if you have one.  You nurses don't do anything at work anyway.  You just take up space and steal pain medications from patients.

Yes, you are. You are putting your own needs ahead of others. Thats the definition of selfish. Is there anything wrong with that? Also yes.
