How could the United states even be considered a developed or first world country if it doesn't even have universal health care?

Most of these stats are based on GDP alone.

It is certainly developed as there is good health care and a generally high standard of living.  And what is first world is about what political bloc it aligns with - nothing to do with health care.

Now if your question were about whether a country could consider itself civilised without it, now we might be getting somewhere.  It's a political and economic question of who should pay for health care, and on this the USA has chosen to be an odd one out and go for a free market.

Which is odd as it provides other things free at the point of use paid for out of taxes.  Education is the obvious one.  Now why is that if it believes in the free market so much?  I mean, there are private schools, aren't there?  Ah, but they're expensive and only the rich can afford them for their kids.  And the country believes everyone should go to school, and that's not going to happen if the government doesn't provide schools for free.

Here goes with the economic theory - a free market only works if the conditions are right.  There is a choice of suppliers, we have "perfect information" so we can make a choice, and everyone can make a free choice of who to buy from.  We can shop around.  It works really well with food.  Just for fun, normally I go for the cheapest I can find but when it comes to cream of tomato soup, I think nothing beats the taste of Heinz.  So I don't mind paying a bit more for that, but now who has the best price on it?  I can find out and buy it there.

But when it comes to health care, can you shop around?  Can you see price lists and decide which doctor or hospital to use?  How do you know who's best value?  Especially if you've just had an accident and been knocked out somewhere away from home (yep, it's happened to me) - how can I choose which hospital I want to be taken to when I'm unconscious?  The conditions for a true free market just aren't there, and that is why civilised countries in general make it a government-run service.  The government runs it to be economical and efficient.  Otherwise doctors could charge what they like and you can't tell if they're overcharging - which is what happens in the USA.

This wouldn't matter so much if health care wasn't an expensive service we all need sometime.  But it is, like schools, so logically it should be run the same way.

If you think a civilised country should care for its citizens, the least it can do is provide universal health care.  Here in the UK, we've had it for the last 72 years and nobody would go back to how it was before.  OK it's not perfect but nothing ever is, and you can still "go private" if you like.  The fact that the USA resolutely refuses to provide it rather sends it down the list of who is civilised.  Yes, I know socialism is a dirty word in the USA, but this is one time when socialism in the true sense of government control makes sense.  Like under-18 education.

Actually there's a thing - socialists differ on how far it should go.  Have government control of everything and you get communism, which we surely all know doesn't work.  But a bit of socialism in the right place is no bad thing.

If health care is a human right, aren't housing and food similar categories? Particularly hard to be healthy without sustenance. 

Feel free to call it 3rd world if it makes you feel better.  No one cares.

And yet all kinds of people of means come to the US for things like cancer treatment instead of waiting and WAITING for their rationed UHC system to allow them treatment. OR.............just make them comfortable. 

Well, since "First World," a term coined by the UN, literally means "the US and her allies," it would be impossible for the US not to be considered as such.  I mean, the US being "First World" is the very definition of the term.

There's no reason bothering even trying to tell you. You'd be to blinded by your politics to listen.

For instance, America is one of the top countries in our alliance. And Russia and China are top countries in their alliance.

But 3rd world unaligned countries like Chile are actually more financially stable and more well off than some 1st world countries.

Most nations with UHC are 3rd world shitholes.
