My girlfriend says she won’t be with me unless I go university?

Nothing much more to say really, she comes from a very educated background and says she would much much rather be with someone who has a degree, this to me is very shallow and I don’t think that having a degree makes anyone a better person, any help?

OK, so if getting a degree isn't your plan for making a good living, what is? You need to offer some attractive alternative, not just "I don't wanna." She doesn't want to waste her time on some guy that going to be a minimum wage grunt all his life. She wants a guy who has a profession, a trade, a good livelihood. Or is at least working his way toward that. So what do you have to offer?

Yes, the idea that people with degrees are better than people who make their living in trades, in "non-professional" fields, is pretty shallow. But the idea that people who exert themselves to secure a good future are better than those who drift along without ambition is not. It's just a fact of life that most of us, as adults, don't want to get seriously involved with someone so indifferent to securing a good living, a good future, for themselves.

Apparently your girlfriend has very high standards. It's best that you get someone else who'll not trivialise relationships because of universal degrees.

She sounds like a very shallow person. Having a degree doesn't necessarily mean you are educated. It also dose not mean you are a good person.

My Dad did not even have a high school diploma but he was one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever know. He was a voracious reader and could talk about just about any subject.

Yes I can help.  You can not be a good american without a good education.  You have to be educated enough to make the right choices for your life.  So in this light, your girlfriend is correct.  If you want to be a Good American, leave your home town and  go to college.  Be who you should be.  Then, when you get done with college, you may find that your girlfriend is not the one for you.  That is what education will tell you.    She is not being shallow.  A woman has to sacrafice her career to have children, it is in her best interest to be with someone who is going someplace.  She also realizes through her family that companies are discarding resumes of people who don't have college degrees.  A college degree is now the minimum standard to demonstrate that a prospective employee is "trainable".  If  you want to be left behind in the current economy, just forget about college.  You don't need it, if you dont have plans for the future.  However if you want to have good plans for the furture, Plan on going to college, finish college, the find the right girl for you.  College changes people, many for the better.  You will find out who you are.  That is very important for you and your future.
