One of each.  The French one is larger and a lot more worth visiting.  Better weather too

Americans, Australians, etc have been assiduous at naming towns and cities after towns and cities and notable people in Britain and Europe.  New York is named after the Duke of York.  Albany is the name of a noble family in Britain.  Las Vegas means 'the meadows' in Spanish.
