I feel embarrassed about my job sometimes ?

So my wife and I just moved into a very fancy neighborhood. Everybody around here are doctors, lawyers big business owners. You know great white collar jobs. My wife is in the military and I own a company that restores bathtubs and countertops. It makes great money but I feel embarrassed to even park my work truck in front of the house. I dont want people knowing what I do. Am I wrong? Thanks

You're not wrong. I live in a neighborhood like this and the social pressure to appear "fancy" is real. But you're apparently making a blue collar job into something materially successful and that's nothing to be ashamed of. My HOA wouldn't even allow a work truck to be parked in front of a house unless it was just a visit to the home by a vendor. So I know it's a bit of a hassle but you can always rent storage elsewhere for your work truck then commute to that using whatever vehicle your neighbors might not complain about.

If You can afford to live in the same neighborhood as them , you have no reason not to feel like their equal . Some even might argue that your a "Real Man" that knows how to work with his hands , that's something you have over the other men in the neighborhood.

Get magnetic signs for your truck and park it in the garage. You are a hard working husband. Don't be ashamed. You can afford the house; be proud of that fact.

Consider yourself lucky that your local homeowner's association hasn't already nailed you for parking a "commercial vehicle" in your own driveway.

Personally, I don't think you have anything to be embarrassed of. But if you want to introduce yourself as a "project manager" or "contractor," only a few people will be curious enough to press for more details, so you can be self conscious less often.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure there are many small repairs around the house that you would do yourself, but some of your white collar neighbors (I'm not saying all of them) would hire it done because they aren't handy and feel they don't know how to do it. It's impressive that you know how to do constructive things with your hands, making things more beautiful. Running a successful business is even more impressive. Hold your head up.

I think it's great you own a successful business that earning you good money. Whos gonna give a **** if they're a big doctor with a 100k salary they have no need to judge. If you're trying your best they all I can say is your doing great!

I don’t think this is wrong at all. Just be proud that you make good money just like everyone else, and can afford what you like. It doesn’t matter how you make it if you’re stable with it and enjoy doing it.
