Is it wrong to have to use a credit card for car repairs?

I am deep into debt and am trying to get out of but it seems like especially with my one and only source of transportation is soaking me dry and I have no down payment for a new car and not enough of a monthly savings to make a car payment . the only thing I can do is to again put the truck repairs on the credit card 2nd time in a month and hope for a brake. I sit wrong to use my credit card?

It is wrong to keep a vehicle that you obviously cannot afford. Sell it. Use public transportation for a year or two. Suck it up.

Credit card debt just keeps getting worse if you do. Find alternate transportation -- bus, bike, carpool.

This is what a savings account is for and if you'd been putting a tiny bit of money in every week, it would have grow large enough over time to cover these kinds of expenses.

You need to treat savings as if it were another bill to pay. Required with no excuses. It doesn't have to be a huge amount, the regularity of it will make it grow.

That is what cc's are for. To buy brakes. I also hope you get a BREAK.

Can you use public transportation or pay to carpool with someone?

It isn't "wrong" to use a credit card to pay for car repairs but if you managed your money better you wouldn't have to. Buy a book by Dave Ramsey. If you do as he suggests you'll be in much better shape financially then you are now.

Whatever you do - do NOT buy a car on the installment plan. Buy a good clunker and pay cash for it. Never eat out. Brown bag lunches. Look at your expenses and cancel what you can do without. There is a big difference between want and need - every time you want to buy yourself something ask yourself if you need it or just want it.. If you can't pay cash for something then don't get it. Buy things you need at a thrift store - I buy at department stores only if I can't find what I need at my favorite thrift store.

how about riding a bus instead?

It's a bad idea to rely on a credit card for things that you wouldn't be able to afford without the card. Also, you may be able to get a loan with a better interest rate (or lower fees) than the card.

In my opinion, credit cards should be for exactly what you described - an unexpected but required expense.

To get out of debt, examine what you are spending money on.

Determine is the expense a "need" or a "want".

Cut out any expenses that are OPTIONAL that you could live without for a short time and use the extra money to pay off your debts.

Consider a second job or trying to pick up more hours at your current job.
