What’s highest limit at stores for paying in all change??

So I’m a cashier at this gas station here, I was wondering. Let’s say I tell them “That will be 20 dollars please”?? And they try and pay with all 20 dollars in Quarters, Nickels, and Dimes??? Is that too much?? What’s highest amount you can pay if you pay with all Coin Money???

If you pay the correct amount you are still paying for the item. It’s not illegal. It’s an annoyance for both cashier and customer to have all those coins but good for the store so you’ll never have to go to the next register for change if someone hands you a 50 and you don’t have enough change.

It's up to the store to set the limit. There is no legal requirement for a store to accept any amount of payment in coins. Obviously, they aren't going to argue over a $1.89 soda in coins but $30 in gas they could.

I've also seen where coins have been in short supply. In that case, all bets are off, they'll take anything you have.

Legal tender does not equal legal requirement to accept the coins.

legally ALL currency is valid for all amounts

aka you could buy a house with pennies... it would be very annoying but legal
