I applied online for unemployment benefits but got denied because I quit my job instead of asking for light duty work (I broke my hand and had screws drilled into my bones ) my hand hurts , if I go to a social security office can they force the edd to approve my benefits??? Help?? Thank you. Also I'm in los angeles and my doctor told me to go back to work.

Social Security might be able to help you get disability benefits but not unemployment benefits.

No. Social Security has nothing to do with unemployment.

The federal social security administration has zero authority over the state unemployment compensation. Zero.

If you QUIT your job, you don't get unemployment. Your Doctor says you're OK to go back to work, so you're NOT handicapped, so NO SSI benefits. Get off your lazy butt and find another job!

    No, they cannot.

You can appeal EDD's decision, but you can't have the social security administration force them to change it.

If you’re doctor told you to go back to work, why did you think you could quit your job and collect unemployment because your “hand hurts”? Many people go to work everyday in some kind of pain - and much more than a hand. And, no, social security can’t make unemployment pay you. You should have just taken a little time off from work.

In California, you would have been eligible for short term disability if

    1. You didn't quit your job

    2. Your doctor provided authorization for you to be off work.

At this point, you need to ask for your old job back. If that doesn't work, find a new job.
