A Great Britain team was suggested but the home countries didn't agree as they would lose their national identities.

Interesting story,, a few years back Scotland was having a vote to pull out of the UK. England let it be known that if they pulled out they would have to apply to be a member of the EU as a new nation and England would black ball them. So Scotland voted to stay in the UK. Then UK goes and votes to pull out of the EU. Scotland wants to stay so Spain comes in and says if Scotland pulls out of the UK, Spain will sponsor Scotland to come into the EU. So we have to wait and see what happens after the UK is out of the EU, we may see an independent Scotland.

Football is a sport not a political movement. FIFA (Federation International Football Association). No such thing as world cup soccer, it's football.
