Are cats freeloaders?

I mean, dogs can work for their food, we eat cows, chickens and pigs, so it is useful to feed them, and of course horses, donkeys, etc, do something as well. But cats... We just feed them cause they are cute, no matter if they even like us or not.

I have had cats all my life. All in door cats except for my recent cat who is an outdoor cat. My outdoor cat is not a free loader he kills mice and birds unfortunately he likes to bring them in the house. Now all my in door cats were scared if they saw a mouse. All my cats through the years have been lovable and would cuddle and that is priceless in my book

  • ya'll keep saying they catch mice and stuff, but not once in 12 years of owning my cat has she ever caught a single mouse or rat. In my opinion MY cat is a freeloader but I love her nonetheless because she's like another sibling to me, I've had her since I was 3.

Cats catch mice, so they can be really useful keeping mice out of the house.

Cats aren't stupid and know when they're onto a good thing, so you can't blame them for lying around and being copiously fed. Why put yourself out when you don't need to?

However, they are good at rodent control, if allowed to be; there was a granary down the road from where we once were and they had several cats "on the payroll" to deal with mice and rats. The guys in the office were used to seeing a cat coming in the door several times a day with something grey, furry and very dead in its mouth and laying it on the mat.

They can be good mousers and help reduce the rodent population - as I know.

Yesterday my cat brought in a mouse, ate it and promptly barfed it up!
