How common is the practice of?
blocking people that offer dissenting viewpoints from answering or commenting? This seems to me a sign of weakness and bias.

How common on what scale? It's very common in certain sections of Yahoo Answers, and less common in others. I'm not sure what your question is exactly.

I don't know the stats, but I would hope it's a minority. I honestly try and answer always with honesty and no hostility, and I've been blocked.
