What can someone do with your number?

A stranger recently approached me and asked me to text his friend to phone him, normally I would just say no but I was in a position I was comfortable in, it was dark and I was on my own at a bus stop so I just wanted him to go away really, so o text his friend asking what he said and he just said thank you and walked off but I’m worried about what he could do with my number now his friend has it, I’ve blocked the number but can they hack into anything now they have it?

You can deal with it to the police. And what if they don't hack it, because you have done a good deed so why would they?

Who says the guy has a friend? You may have texted his own phone. There's not much you can do with a number, so don't worry overmuch. If he physically did anything to your phone, there's a small amount of worry. Key word "small".

I've been watching too much Law & Order, but maybe he didn't want to use his own phone so the text isn't traced to him.

Once they get your number they will use it to locate your address.  They will start a file noting when you leave home, when you come back, and where you go in the meantime.  After collecting and collating this kind of information for at least three months you will be contacted with your first assignment.
