Is there any bearing or historical relevance to the tomb raider games, or otherwise?

Update:

I understand that it's based on fantasy/fiction but my question more specifically deals with archeology and the study/findings as a whole.

Vishnu for example and all the stories that followed him are held as fact just on the basis of faith alone. Christianity and Catholicism are no different - in their own right.

So to break it down further, are there archeologists searching for mythical artifacts believed (at one time, or presently) to hold magical powers?

It's all fantasy fiction that what inspired by the "golden age" of archeology in the 1860 - 1930s.
