Was Man United's win over City ultimately meaningless?

They're still winning the league and you're still winning nothing after all.

Ultimately, yes, but it might establish a psychological advantage in the way that England beating Germany in Euro 2000, was meaningless, but set them up to win 5-1 in Munich a year later. Man Utd's players have proved to themselves that they CAN beat Man City, that they can get back to their old competitive ways (2-0 down 3-2 up was an Alex Ferguson trait) and that they can win important games which they haven't always done this season.

ha ha ha. wait and see.

Spurs up next. Followed by relegation fighters in Swansea, Westham, Huddersfield. I think they will lose all of them. That would mean they need to beat Brighton and Southampton (2 more relegation contenders) to win the title!!

Yes, bragging rights mean zip all when you are second.

  • it's certainly not meaningless...as is the fact of conceeding 6 goals in little over half an hour...p, the title is all but a forgone conclusion now, but that doesn't equate to what happened as meaningless, unless you are an arrogant naive City fan...

It was definitely a confidence boost for Manchester United, especially as they came from behind, but I think everyone knows that the league is long gone for any team besides Manchester City, who will surely just seal it.

I'm certain it at least won't affect Manchester City's league form, as they only need one more win.

Saying it's meaningless, is pretty understandable though, as I don't think Manchester City really care, as it came between two Champions League ties.

Naby makes a good point though:

Liverpool FC did do most of the damage in the Champions League tie and we played against a team, who had one eye on a more important game around the corner, given the league's circumstances - I think they rested a lot of key players too.

Manchester United had a lot of luck in the game too, but who wouldn't take a win against their biggest rivals ?

I think both Manchester United and Liverpool FC did each other a favour, with Liverpool FC doing the most damage, in a game where Manchester City were obviously thinking about more and Manchester United just took advantage.

    Source(s): Man Utd fan.

It was as we were the ones who ended the unbeaten streak and embarrassed them, following up the embarrassment again on a higher stage. Man utd kicked them wounded, which was good this result will serve us going into the tie on Tuesday.
