Ingrown toenail help?
Today I removed an ingrown toenail I had at home. I opened up the side of my big toe and I removed a big chunk of it. This made me feel a lot of relief on the side of my toe. However, I also noticed that I still had a lot of pain on the tip of my toe. It is literally on the tip and on the corner of my toe. Every time I press on it I feel extrutiating pain. I was thinking about using an exacto knife to cut where it hurts and see if it relived the pain but I was too scared to do it because of the pain. Could this pain I feel be an I grown toenail on the tip of my toe or could it be something else? I already removed the ingrown nail from the side of my toe so I don’t see how I could have one on the tip. Honestly going to a foot doctor is not a possibility for me since the removal would cost me $800 and I don’t have insurance nor the money to afford a doctor. This is why I had to do the surgery myself.

Dear...go to a podiatrist and get it professionally removed. If you do it yourself you run the risk of infection and the cost will be MORE than you imagine.

Soak your foot in hot water..as hot as you can stand it. You still have a sliver of nail growing inside your toe in the corner. By soaking your foot you will soften your foot. Once your skin starts looking "prune-ish" use a pair of tweezers to slide under your nail and gently lift up the corner nail. Once up, use clippers to clip the nail straight across or if possible pull the sliver out. Soaking your foot in Epsom salt will help heal your toe. Cover the toe with a band-aid an use an anti-biotic cream to prevent infections. Please DO NOT use an Exacto knife,

It's not a home job and you've only succeeded in making a bad situation worse. Ingrown toenails are caused by improper trimming-- cutting the *corner of the nail off, so it grows downward into the flesh instead of out. The surgical fix takes off a strip along the entire side of the nail. It also removes the complete root, which is extends about ⅓ inch below the cuticle and uses chemical cauterization to prevent it from growing back. That's why the procedure requires SURGERY. Contact a podiatrist... You're going to regret that botched DIY attempt.
