I have to admit that I have never questioned the reality of God, having been brought up on the Bible and having no problem accepting that this universe, this planet, and all life therein is proof of God as Creator. However, the idea of "seeking" God became a real question for me to find the answer to in my mid twenties. That was due to my discovery that many of the beliefs I had been brought up with were skewed according to what the Bible actually showed. However, I never doubted God being real!
What happened due to my unwanted discovery about many religious beliefs being iffy, was getting down on my knees in prayer, seeking God's direction as to where I went from there. That prompted me to get a reputable English Bible translation and re-reading it, no longer looking for proof texts to back up the interpretations I'd believed. Then an amazing thing happened! I suddenly saw in verses about Jesus I could quote inside out that it's only through coming to Jesus that we can discover the reality of God! I had never done that. I had only come to an American religious organization to 'find' God. Needless to say, I quickly discovered from the Bible that God did not send an organization to save us, but the One who was the uncreated Word of God, who became the man, Jesus Christ. I had to come to Him.
Never having done that, I did what the Bible tells us to do in Philippians 2:10 - to bend my knee in Jesus' name and confess Him to be the only Savior and Lord - the only means of approach to the Father. That's when I found Him (or, rather, He found me and just opened my eyes to the reality of God, as revealed by the Son, Jesus.)
