What do you call a person that leads behind the scenes?
Im not the kind of person in a social situation to be a "leader" im the person that observes, advises and steps in should the "leader" make a poor decision. Silent leader of the leader.

Hmm, I'm sure there is only one leader. An adviser or counselor might help and guide the leader in some decision making but it is ultimately the leader that makes the last decision. In the past there where those who would manipulate kings and queens towards their own agenda, in today's world they are said to be Machiavellian.

There is no such person. The elected or appointed leader of a nation or a corporation is the real leader. There may be several leaders, such as the president, Congress, and the Supreme Court. However, there are no secret leaders behind them telling them what to do. The word might be "adviser."
