Why does Windows "recommend" a smaller resolution for my Plasma TV?
I've got it hooked up as my 2nd monitor to my computer via an HDMI cable. Windows recommends 1280x720 but I can set it to 1920x1080. Just wondering if there's a reason for that, like a loss in image quality or something if I set it to it's max resolution?
It's a desktop using an R7 250 video card. My main monitor is using 1920x1080 hooked via a DVI cable. It's straight HDMI to the TV, no adapter.
I've been running the TV at 720p for a while, been fine. Used it for a few hours today at 1080 and it seemed to be fine as well.
The video card has no trouble with the dual monitor output.
Mostly I'm asking why isn't Windows considering the TV's max resolution it's native resolution. I suspect it has something to do with it being a plasma TV but haven't found anything about that on the interwebs.
Well, with more research, found it's only supposed to support 720p according to the manufacturer. Curious that Windows lets me increase that now... The TV is a Panasonic th-42px80u

So, Panasonic's tech support got back to me and said it's because the TV still only supports 720p.
The specs it says it supports 1080p but that's only by scaling the image.

most likely your video card can't handle the 1920x1080 at least not long term
could also do with how the video output fits on the screen - like giving it side borders
