Why my hand-washed animal smells worse?

I recently washed one of my favorite stuffed toys by hand-washing it. I didn't have detergent, but I did have Aussie shampoo. I used it, rinsed it, and let it air-dry, but it smells worse. It's not the shampoo's fragrance, because it's the complete opposite of this foul scent. Anyone have any idea what it is, and how I can fix it, if I can at all?

Throw it in the washing machine next time you do laundry. You didn't get it clean by hand washing it so the smell and dirt are still in it.

What were the cleaning instructions for it? Many stuffed animals say surface cleaning only.

Chances are the stuffing should not of been immersed in water. There is a chemical reaction
