down to SD not so bad, going up to LA will be horrific, because of traffic coming from TJ

Well we did it yesterday, and it was better than I could have hoped. We've made this trip many times before, and I don't think we've ever had less traffic. We hardly slowed down in LA at all, and the last leg, between Orange County and Oceanside, was smooth sailing. However my brother came down an hour later from Long Beach and traffic snarled up pretty bad between Orange County and Oceanside. Also, on our trip down the traffic on northbound I5 was AWFUL! It was slow and go all through LA, down through Orange County, and into Camp Pendleton.
So maybe the traffic advisory for Presidents Day is that it's an absolute nightmare going north because everyone's heading home from Southern California, but not too many people are coming south. So it's a good day to go south, but don't even think about going north.
