It is ALL about the time taken - it can be VERY easy to reach the Starter-Motor, or it can be very hard. I have a record of 12 minutes on a certain type of car, where it is easy. My Ex-wife had an Audi which took me four wretched hours of my life which I am never getting back.

Depends on its location. If it's easy and you can get right to it, you should do it yourself. They might even charge you $100 if it takes them only15 mins. What kind of car/year you got?
