Is a past it German midfielder really the man to bring the Premier League title back to Man United?

I'm not convinced.

United's midfield looks very strong and Schweinsteiger should be of great benefit to United, even if it is just for the short term. I still think that United need one more very good player in defence and I think Otamendi or the likes of Antonio Rudiger would be great buys. I have watched them both and they are both awesome central defenders. They also need a top striker. I think United will definitely qualify for the Champions League this season, but I can't see them winning the league just yet. But the transfer window closes at the end of August, so United could make many more singings between then and now.

Is Schweinsteiger past it? Because this last season and the World Cup before that lead me to think that he's hasn't shown signs of 'losing' anything.

The guy is still in his prime and though he's 30, he still has at least 4 good seasons left in him. With Carrick in his twilight, signing Schweinsteiger not only makes an immediate impact, but it'll make the transition in a couple seasons a lot smoother.

No, Schweinsteiger is just another old experience midfielder. Yeah he won lots of trophies but now he's older. So he can't perform up to standards. He will just be another average signing maybe out on loan by January or next summer.

How is he past it? just because he's getting older, his performances are still at a high level, he's a bit like Pirlo, not in terms of how they both play, but both are continuing their top form well into their 30's.

right now? no i dont think they will mount a proper challenge next season (we'll see if they sign more players tho)

if MU dont buy a proper world class striker i think they will get 3rd at the most Rooney just isnt the man anymore and I really dont see LVG keeping him at the club for much longer

To be honest neither am I. You'd think they just signed prime Matthaus from the reactions on Redcafe. Spacers.

Something smells funny about this, you do not leave the second best team in the world for less than £15m unless they want you gone.

Last year he only played in 28 games in all comps, I think his knee has not healed up properly and Bayern wanted rid of him.

Yes he is a class player and will suit United well…but not a long term fix, it will be another RvP and Falcao situation at best if United are very lucky..
