Why have I missed a period?

I'm 18 years old and I haven't had my period for a couple of months now. I'm a virgin, so I know I'm not pregnant.

Should I go to the doctors just in case it's something serious?

I've practiced OB/GYN for over 30 years and want you to know that it is not too likely a serious issue that is causing the delay. Most frequently the cause is one of a few easily correctable matters. Stress is the most common cause of a late or missed period. Any type of severe stress can prevent menses from coming when expected. This can last for several months. If this seems likely, the obvious solution is to reduce the stress in whatever manner works best for you. Poor nutrition is another leading cause. It is important to eat a well balanced diet consisting of each of the food groups. I've known women who switch to a vegetarian or vegan diet and promptly failed to menstruate, as an example. Other contributing factors can be increased physical exercise especially when beginning athletic participation, obesity, and anorexia. Certainly, it can result from other issues. But in over 85% of patients I've seen with unexplained late or missed periods, the cause has been one of these. See if any seem possible to you. Hope this helps and I wish you well.

It's probably not anything bad. You might just be irregular. Some girls even skip five months and such. Also if you take birth control then that could also be a reason. If you just missed your period, with no other side affects you should be fine. But if your still worried, then you might want to head to the doctor.

You should go to the doctor just to check it out. I have heard of some girls who skip a month, but it might be hazardous to your health.
