Can someone please explain to me how it's possible for Jesus to be both omniscient and illiterate simultaneously ?

Just because he left no writings doesn't mean that he was illiterate. Most adult males in first century Galilee were educated enough to make it through the daily readings in the synagogue, and by the middle of the first century, the Jews had one of the more sophisticated educational systems of the ancient world. In the gospels, Jesus performs his expected duty and reads the appointed passage in the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and there is no reason to doubt the historicity of that pericope. He also spoke at least two languages, if not three (without formal training he probably could not read Hebrew).

But, to address your question, some theologians maintain that Jesus was omniscient, and some maintain that part of the "fully man" thing included the limited knowledge that all human beings have. Neither view significantly impacts Christian dogma.

The Greek word used is τέκτων, or tekton. This means he could have been any kind of craftsman, not necessarily a carpenter. Moreover, in Luke 4:16, it briefly describes Jesus reading:

"And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read."

In any case, as Christian Sinner said, I don't think it matters too much.

I did not know Jesus was illiterate. The Jews wondered how he could read and never been taught.

Gods can do anything, haven't you been paying attention. It's our downfall, and the reason people choose to believe in them. Easy answer to the questions that have no answers.

Illiterate ???. when at 12 years of age he was able to converse with the temple elders on scripture .

The official story is that Jesus spoke to disciples directly and then inspired the scriptures through the Holy Spirit. He is reputed to have written something in the sand that caused others to make note.

I can't. I don't think it's necessary. I think what you did was insult someone you never met; thinking he was less educated than you are. But all you really did was show how much you don't know about him.

A request from one atheist to another. If you're criticizing religion, keep it factual. Let's keep the wild claims, pseudo science and erroneous arguments for the religious.
