handbrake starts?

hi guys im a profesional truck driver have been for 40 years, I have driven all types of vechicles frm 50 ton trucks to forklifts to go carts. Recently our company obtained a new VW Caddy.The problem im having is that I cannot do a handbrake start in this vehicle no matter what I do. Please dont tell me I cant drive, Im just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Every time I try it rolls backwards

    Let your clutch out a fraction more until it engages

    Obviously the hand brake is not working.

    Try the troll lever instead.
