I don't find that odd. The Salvation Army is a *church* denomination as well as a charitable organization. It's understandable that a church would look for volunteers who share the same faith.

If you find the idea of the Salvation Army being a church uncomfortable, there are plenty of secular charities to which you may donate instead of the Salvation Army.

I know that the Salvation Army only helps Christians. I used to donate to the SA all the time and they had no problem. However I became homeless for a short time, and when I was at the SA shelter, they kicked me out because they found out I wasn't Christian. So yeah, the fact that Christians lie and say that they are a religion of love and peace proves they can't be trusted.

Obviously their image as a Christian run organization is more important to them than money. They don't want any Satanists, for example, taking advantage of this volunteer position to advance Satanism. They want a Christian because they want someone they can trust not to steal the donations and not to smear the reputation of the organization. Trust is very important, and although limiting volunteer positions to Christians only isn't any guarantee someone won't lie and claim they are Christian just to sneak into that position of trust, at least they did their best to seek out only trustworthy volunteers by asking specifically for Christians. A true Christian is trustworthy.

True Christians repent of sin and have their morals written on their heart. Their morals don't change as a matter of convenience the way Atheist morals do.

DWJD! Sorry, I am stopped from commenting directly for some reason on your answer. So I'll do it here, I have no problem with that, just what was written on the sign asking for volunteers... I WAS interested in volunteering.. hence, my question... I guess I will donate my time elsewhere, as well as my money. I'd like my time and money to go to helping ALL needy people that it can, not just those that worship the proper god...

I'm not surprised. There are many Christian nonprofit organizations and charities. Habitat for Humanity is the same way. They are not totally discriminating. Atheists can go buy things from the Salvation Army. They just don't want any atheist volunteers.....

A better question would be: When will atheists start some nonprofit organizations and help other atheists? When will atheists help Christians?

All employees recognize that The Salvation Army is a church and agree that they will do nothing as an employee of The Salvation Army to undermine its religious mission.

That is weird, I wish you would have taken a photo of it. But check out "what they believe" - they are wackos.

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.
