Were Bermuda oniions first discovered growing on Bermuda? If not, how did the name originate?

They were introduced to the island in 1616 - I am assuming by Spanish explorers, but I can't say that for sure. One source says the seeds came from the Canary Islands (although that source lists a much later year). They soon became a major crop on the island and exported.

onions were introduced to the island by Europeans around ~1600 AD or so. they became known for their sweetness, like Vidalia or Walla Walla onions.
