what makes anime men attractive?

Im a straight guy, so I dunno if that has an affect - but im just trying to understand some of these fangirls just a little more. So let me add a little disclaimer: im not trying to offend anyone and Im always speaking in general terms, I know animes can have different styles, but lets be realistic, we all know which style ima talk about since its the iconic one.

For girls I can understand, you just give them ridiculous body proportions, and that's generally enough for a guy to find them attractive. Or, you make them lolis - I don't understand the appeal in this either, but that's a question for another day.

SOooo, i dont see how its the same for guys, in general terms, i find most anime guys seem to have the same face (boxy and pointy face + big eyes) and body structure (skinny frame + elongated limbs), just different clothes and hair. Essentially, theyre super lanky, skinny guys.

I know a little bit about anatomy and perception. Anime guys are pretty much how humans view other humans in their mind, which Is anatomically incorrect, but somehow feels better to us. So maybe it has to do with that...

So is it...

all in the attitude?

are their physical features actually attractive?

is it something else?

did I put way too much thought into this (probably)

I think it's mostly because of their attitude/personality, in combination with a pleasing to the eye appearance. You're right that most anime characters do look quite similar, but the tall and slender build is generally pleasing to most people (not saying other body types are bad). If you pay attention to anime character types, you'll notice there aren't actually that many different personalities and most of them are designed to be attractive to different types of women. For example, there are the strong/silent types, the smart types, the sporty/athletic types, the pervy/flirty type, the innocent/sweet type, etc.

Other than that, I guess male anime characters are attractive for the same reason that female anime characters are attractive - because they're just a "perfect person" fantasy to daydream about.

By iconic I take it you mean the typical style for the late 2000's? SAO, Code Geass, High School DxD, Sora no Otoshimono and etc? It's probably because most manga artists use similar techniques.

So your question is what makes them (male characters in anime) attractive? Well, part of the reason they're seen as attractive may be because of how anime characters are very easily readable. Their emotions (blushing, exaggerated outbursts, colourful backgrounds) and thougts are more or less given to you without any (or at the least) few hidden secrets. Thus, you can more easily relate to them as you understand them better.

Regarding physical attributes, I'd say it doesn't really matter how their proportions are (mainly because almost every anime character are either decent looking or bad looking antagonist). That's why they have such crazy hair colours and cliche personalities. Of course, female characters are far more often given overused personalites in contrast to male characters (possibly because the male characters are usually the MC's and they're there to allow the readers/viewers to delve into the story more easily).

Now, this is all speculation seeing as I do not find male characters to be sexually attractive, so I'm just arguing with logic.
