Online meal resources for diabetics?

After much tracking, testing and observation my doctor recently diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes. The numbers don't lie unfortunately.

Now, I'm 50 and overweight so of course the first things I need to work on are exercise and diet. Exercise is simple enough for me to wrap my brain around but diet for a diabetic may as well be rocket science for me. Calories vs good carbs vs bad carbs...oops, watch cholesterol now. Careful or salts will get you.

I've been looking around online for easy to understand diet info for type 2 diabetics but I'm stumped. Its all so confusing to me. I'd really appreciate any assistance with simple and easy to understand diet and nutrition info for pers in my situation.

The main strategy is to spread out the glucose peak over time hopefully to levels your pancreas can handle. You do this by dividing your meals into smaller, more frequent meals, selecting lower glycemic index alternatives and perhaps omitting or replacing some carbs while maintaining a balanced nutritious diet.

An easy solution would be to hire a "Meal Replacement Service", they cook up and freeze a number of meals for you according to the dietary guidelines specified and leave you reheating instructions. Just heat the meals, divide it into two, eat half then the other half a few hours later. Of course, you could do the same by purchasing Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice items ( they're a bit small to divide though ).

As to online resources, there was a website called Keeping Well With Diabetes, www.kwwd.com where you created an account, it offered menu choices for a week, you made your selections and it generated a shopping list and recipe cards for you. The site was bought out by a pharmaceutical but I believe it still works the same and the old address is a link to the new site.

The most natural and healthy diet for humans is an omnivorous diet, and not a plant based diet, or a meat-based diet per se. The Paleo Diet can be very widely varied and omnivorous for the most part, but the most important thing is that it’s unprocessed, and avoids the worst foods that agriculture brought mankind… refined inflammatory vegetable oils, refined grains (some are worse than others), and sugar! Learn here https://tr.im/Kg5nO

As you can see, the benefits of adopting a Paleo way of eating can be incredible! I’ve been eating 95% Paleo for the last 5-6 years and I’ve never felt better. I have dozens of friends that have adopted a more Paleo way of eating too, and have seen all sorts of health problems disappear, including eliminating acne and other skin problems, digestion problems, improving brain clarity, and of course, losing a lot of body fat!

You need to consume fiber rich carbohydrates since fiber slows the release of glucose into the bloodstream. This includes raspberries, blackberries, broccoli, black beans, exc. Always mix some fat with carbohydrates as fats help slow digestion, which in turn keeps glucose from fluctuating rapidly. Make sure to eat foods rich in magnesium and chromium; two essential nutrients that help regulate insulin. The richest source of chromium is broccoli, while the richest sources of magnesium are spinach and cocoa beans. Also, try adding turmeric to your meals. Turmeric is very anti-inflammatory, and is well known to prevent liver disease and pancreatic cancer due to high antioxidant activity. Avoid any processed foods, since most contain chemicals and additives that are toxic to the liver. Drink plenty of water, and consider fasting once a week to let your body heal.
