It takes no talent what so ever! ;)
Just like tootall1121 says a 5 year old can do it!
R A P = RETARD ATTEMPTING POETRY

Well, it doesn't seem to take any talent. Least ways, not to make money at it. If you relate it to poetry, then most is very bad poetry. Most has no meter to it. No meter, no poetry, that's that. There are few truly good rappers, just as there are few good poets. Lots of poor and mediocre ones, but not good ones. I mean, I've seen a five year old rap, so how much talent does it take?

Yes.
The thing is, since rap is mostly vocal and not instrumental the standards are higher when it comes to lyrical quality. Bad rap isn't all that deep, good rap is.
Saying that it doesn't take talent because it doesn't rely on instrumentation is like saying poetry doesn't take talent.

Lyrically it takes more than most genres
Instrumentally the are no more than 1-2 riffs repeated

If it takes no talent, then any one of the people commenting should be able to upload themselves dishing out a track they created that rivals any critically acclaimed hip-hop out there. I mean, if *anyone* can do it, then it should be easy
I'm waiting..

It takes talent to make music...period. To be inspired by one's surroundings or dreams translates into music, and sometimes the music can be truly inspirational.

Yes. Obviously good rap is harder to make than bad rap.
