Does anyone on this site know who Nazareth is and why are they what seems to be almost forgotten?
BQ1 - In your opinion, does Dan McCafferty deserve more recognition as a vocalist?
BQ2 - Would you share your favourite song of theirs with me?

I started listening to Nazareth a few years ago and I really like them. In the mid-70's they had some stardom, particularly with "Hair of the Dog" and "Love Hurts", but sadly they have gone without much widespread recognition during the course of their career. The quality of their music took a dive after 1980, and I haven't listened to any of their material beyond the 80's -- once guitarist and primary songwriter (with Dan McCafferty) Manny Charlton left I assumed they weren't worth the time anymore, but I might be wrong. Their 1970's albums are highly enjoyable, although I was disappointed that they moved away from the rootsy influences of their first two albums and took on a more Deep Purple-esque sound -- I love DP, but Nazareth lost their uniqueness then (funny enough, their third album, "Razamanaz", was produced by DP bassist Roger Glover, and the title track is an obvious attempt to remake "Speed King"). Still, for any hard rock/heavy metal fan, your collection isn't complete without Nazareth.
BQ1: McCafferty's a great singer -- it's a shame that he had to retire from touring because of his C.O.P.D. Still, he says that he might still be able to record albums in the studio as it's a less-stressful experience; he's a good guy for knowing when to bow out, and doing it with grace. I don't know how much acclaim he's gotten for his vocals from critics, but I know that Axl Rose is a huge fan and even asked the band to perform at his wedding (which they turned down).

They aren't forgotten... they are played on the local fogey rock station every hour it seems.
They are like so many bands of that era... a little edgy, a little creative... but mostly forgettable and annoying.... everything that Post Grunge is today and then some.

yes, I remember their songs on the radio, but was too young to know more about them
