Are the iphone 4s and 4 the exact same?
are they the same brightness and res or is one better than the other is it worth upgrafing from 4 to 4s for this?

Why would they recreate the exact same iPhone. Of course not
The iPhone 4S's hardware is a complete upgrade from the iPhone 4. It is in the same category as the iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 5, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S/C.
The iPhone 4S has a dual core A5 chip which is waaaaay faster than the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4S also has retina display meaning better resolution on the screen(more pixels)
I would say the upgrade is much worth it. The iPhone 4S is a great phone.

Well all you need to know is that the iPhone 4 doesn't have Siri but the iPhone 4s does.

No they are not the same. there are many features extra as well as new processor in 4s.
