I would have to say Nirvana just because they put out that song Teen Spirit. I remember when that song came out, myself and everybody I knew, both boys and girls, all started wearing Teen Spirit deodorant. I remember seeing in the boys locker room at school, all the guys were using Teen Spirit deodorant just because of that song and we would sing that song all the time. Such great memories, I still use Teen Spirit today just to remind me of the good times.

Although I like both Nirvana and R.E.M., I'm going to have to say Nirvana because I believe that their music is much better.

I like both bands, but I prefer R.E.M.; I love R.E.M., and albums such as Murmur, Reckoning & Lifes Rich Pageant are masterpieces. Nirvana is good, but I like R.E.M. more.

I choose Nirvana, because i believe i heard them 1st first before R.E.M. they are both good bands but they have different genre.

personally i like both but i guess i'd have to pick R.E.M. because there catalogue is a lot bigger and as much as i think Nirvana were great, i can't listen to Kurt album after album like i can with R.E.M.

Rem
because they made 100s of great songs
in the top 5 bands of all time
Country feedback(live) is awesome
Nirvana made 1 half decent overated album (nevermind)
and the singer tops himself
Rem v Nirvana? no contest

Nirvana. R.E.M. are pretentious and uphold a "holier than thou" attitude, which annoys the hell out of me. Plus, Michael Stipe is not a good vocalist.
