Do you know the difference between a cult and a religion?
Answer: In a cult there is one guy at the top who knows that it is all bull****, In a religion that guy is dead.

There is not much difference really. In fact, cults are a subset or a type of religion . A cult in the modern use of the word though, usually refers to a religion or movement that is based around a person with particular views and doctrines that go against formally accepted viewpoints and teachings. Most major religions have offshoots that would be categorized as cults. For example, the Baptist church http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptists would probably consider Westboro Baptist Church as a cult.
